I had a really cool encounter today while heading into the French Quarter from St. Bernard Parish on Sunday. As I drove through the Lower 9th Ward, this curbside mass was going on in an empty lot which used to house a church before Hurricane Katrina destroyed it. It was a beautiful and inspiring thing seeing the congregants singing their gospel while all this destruction lie around them. The preacher was this incredibly cool old guy that injected numerous "Halleluyas" and "amens" in between lines. The beauty was that it was just so real and not at all done for the camera and anyone else. just praisin' the Lord on a Sunday with all they had left.
