Buds

I had a rather challenging assignment the other day for Fader Magazine, which is a beautiful alternative music magazine that has outstanding photography and gives us great play. I was hoping to get the subject, a kid named Nathan Williams, who is an up and coming Punk Rock star in a band called Wavves, in a kind of gritty, city, urban, ghetto setting. I naturally gravitated towards our Downtown because it has lots of murals, buildings, bars, bums and all that cool urban stuff. While walking along I saw this homeless guy with the great beard just hanging out, and on spur of the moment, asked if Nathan could sit next to him for some shots. He turned out to be this incredibly smart, coherent, cool-ass guy who grew up in my hometown of Raleigh, NC. So, we had a chat, they shared a smoke and a few one liners, and off we went. It really makes you think about how many people out there just had shitty luck or no family. I'm sure we'll be seeing more of this as the economy continues to sour.
